As a substance secreted from kidney walls, renin, activates the renin-angiotensin system produced by liver to make angiotensin I which is further changed to angiotensin II. It is essential to check out the level of renin in human body that is important for maintaining sodium and potassium levels in the human body. A test that is to be performed is taken after consumption of normal food items for a period of 3 days, and with low sodium content. During that time period, birth control pills, drugs for controlling blood pressure, and water pills affect the final results.

Importance of this test:

Since renin is specifically an enzyme that is released due to low sodium content, hence for any change in pressure levels, this test is very important. In case of positive results, normal range of this renin enzyme content remains within 0.2 to 3.3 ng/mL/hour.

In case of hypertension, patients can face issues related to sodium levels and low aldosterone levels as well.
